Bigger Jeans, Looser Tops

by Kitty on July 6, 2011

I’m almost embarrassed to say that I wait as long as possible before I have to wash my jeans. It’s a big production because after I take them out of the dryer (still a teeny bit damp) I have to wear them around the house for awhile to stretch them out. Why don’t I just buy a bigger pair of jeans? Because finding the right fit is a PITA. If they fit me in the waist, they’re too big in the legs. Fit my legs and I can’t breathe.

I used to buy men’s jeans ‘cos they’re wider around the waist but usually have that little gap thing goin’ on in the back – not so flattering.

The problem for me with clothes and finding a good fit…

  • Petite doesn’t necessarily mean short and thin. Why don’t they make shorter tops in bigger sizes? I am 5’1 (shrunk an inch) and I have small shoulders. I always see beautiful and unique tops that are wide enough for my tummy, but they freakin’ go down to my knees and I could easily fit some football shoulder pads to fill out the top. Maybe there IS such a store, I just haven’t found it.
  • Is it an unwritten rule that if you’re a larger size you must have an elastic band under your boobs? Is that supposed to be flattering, or is it style driven? I just think that they look like maternity tops on me.

small jeans, bigger jeansI’m currently in a sz 10 jeans – only-when-washed-and-stretched size 10. About a year or so after surgery I wore a sz 3. THREE! I was so thrilled I took a photo with the sticker still on them. You know, that long clear piece of tape with the size repeated down it, usually stuck on the back from your butt and down your leg? *(ok, I just spent about 25 min looking for that damn picture… I hate when that happens. You know that’s going to bug the heck out of me until I find it!) ANYway, so ya, wore a sz 3 for awhile and gradually got bigger and bigger and now I’m in a tight 10. Hellooo? Yes, and that’s why I’m here. Mark my words, I WILL fit in those jeans again – of course I saved them silly.

I’m pretty sure the jeans were a size 7 in the pic on the left – the one on the right is current, baggie 10s. Actually, they’re tighter on me than that now.

Ok, I’m off. Have fun and be careful out there today. xo
